A Message from Ben (CEO, Kid CEO Media)

Ever since starting my Kid CEO Podcast in March 2020, I’ve observed and met so many curious and ambitious kid entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Young people who established a goal or cause to contribute to, and worked effortlessly to better the lives of others. Throughout interviews and Instagram DM’s, I’ve learned of the highlights of being a kid change maker; seeing those you’ve impacted and receiving the highest honors, and the lowlights; struggles with anxiety, dealing with a million things at once, and not having others to share the journey with. Today, I’m excited to announce that Kid CEO and Project I Am are teaming up to create a digital discord community to bring together young change-makers, from entrepreneurs to philanthropists to authors and motivation speakers. A new digital environment for young people to socialize, have fun, and collaborate to make even more universal. change! From the struggles to the highlights, we’re excited to meet and bring together each and every one of you.

Now, I know it can be a bit confusing navigating Discord, I’m sure many of you haven’t heard of it until recently. In this article, our amazing Discord manager Josh and I put together answers to some common questions, from child safety to how to join in the first place! Hope to see you all there, and remember: “Don’t Wait to Be Great” :).

Is Discord Safe for Kids?

The internet can be a very dangerous place. While we at Kid CEO have a very strict code of conduct in our community, other users of Discord may not share these beliefs. We want everyone to have a great experience in our community. That’s why the rules of the server can be accessed at anytime in the server. In the Kid CEO Discord Server, you will NEVER experience discrimination, hate speech or any forms of disrespectful language. We have moderators that will remove inappropriate comments immediately from the server and take action. Outside of the Kid CEO Discord server, you may receive random friend requests and server invitations. In the “Safety Features” section, we will outline how to disable these features. Finally, we encourage any member or caregiver of a member to reach out to Ben (ben@kidceo.co) or Josh (josh@kidceo.co) with any questions/concerns and we will respond in a timely manner.

One last note, depending on your country/state of residence, Discord has rules as to who can create an account at what age. Depending on your jurisdiction, there may be exemptions for a parent creating an account on behalf of a minor. Please see Discord’s Terms of Service for more information.

Safety:

It’s important to stay safe while using Discord. Below, we have compiled some recommendations on general practices and settings to keep you safe. Some of these instructions are from the Discord Safety tips.

Setting Who can Direct Message (DM) You:

You can set who can send you a DM by going to User Settings and selecting Privacy & Safety and Server Privacy Default. By default, whenever you are on a server with someone else, you can send them a DM. You can choose to block DMs from users in a server who aren’t on your friends list. To do so, you can toggle “Allow direct messages from server members.” You will need to adjust the DM settings individually for each server that they have previously joined (in Server Settings on the server’s dropdown list).

Friend Request Settings:

You should only accept friend requests from users that you know and trust. If you aren’t sure, there’s no harm in rejecting the friend request. You can always add them later if it’s a mistake.

This menu lets you determine who can add you as a friend on Discord. You can access this setting by going into User Settings and selecting Privacy & Safety and Who Can Add You As A Friend.

Blocking:

If you need to block someone because they are making you feel uncomfortable, disrespecting you or exhibiting other unwelcome behavior, it’s very easy. To block someone, click on their name and click block. You will no longer see their messages and they will no longer be able to contact you. If the user you are blocking is a member of the Kid CEO Discord Server, please send a message to a moderator and provide information so we can investigate. Our top priority is to make sure everyone feels safe and included in the server.

How to Participate in Kid CEO 30:

Kid CEO 30 is our monthly event where we challenge all members to participate in a daily self-improvment activity, whether that be fitness or mindfullness. Each month, we have a specific theme and style for the challenge, and there’s a cool NFT prize at the end. For April 2022, all you have to do is reply to the gratitude bot in the #april-2022 channel.
